final cut

The Final Cut Program is an advanced-level training experience for young adults ages 19–23 who are ready to expand upon the foundational skills introduced in the First Frame Program. Designed to prepare emerging filmmakers for real-world documentary production, the program deepens students’ understanding of videography, storytelling, and media production through more hands-on and project-based learning experiences.

Participants will build advanced skills in cinematography, lighting, audio production, interviewing techniques, editing workflows, documentary research, story structure, and production planning. Students will also explore the ethical responsibilities of documentary filmmaking while learning how to capture authentic community stories with creativity, professionalism, and purpose.

As part of the program, students begin preparing for the production of their own short documentary film through the Black History Program. This process encourages participants to research local history, engage with community voices, and develop meaningful stories that preserve cultural heritage and elevate underrepresented narratives. The Final Cut Program is designed to help students strengthen their technical abilities, creative confidence, leadership skills, and career readiness as the next generation of documentary filmmakers.
