The First Frame Program introduces high school students ages 15–18 to the foundational concepts of documentary filmmaking and visual storytelling. Designed as an engaging, hands-on learning experience, the program provides students with an age-appropriate introduction to videography, camera operation, audio recording, lighting, interviewing, and basic video editing. Participants will explore how documentaries preserve history, amplify community voices, and tell meaningful stories through film.
Students will also learn introductory concepts such as story development, shot composition, teamwork, ethical storytelling, production planning, and media literacy while gaining confidence in creative expression and communication. Through guided projects and collaborative activities, the First Frame Program encourages young filmmakers to develop technical skills, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the power of storytelling in underserved communities.
